Elder Services of Okaloosa County was established in 1971 by a group of concerned citizens who recognized the need for support to the elders residing in their community. Originally known as Okaloosa County Council on Aging, the name was changed to provide greater recognition with the newly established Florida Department of Elder Affairs.
The Agency was built upon a small grant from the local United Way for a Meals on Wheels program. Later programs and grants allowed Elder Services to offer a greater array of resources benefiting the elderly of the County. The focus was to establish a single point of contact to eliminate the frustration associated with fractured service delivery.
The agency is staffed by care and professional individuals who are sensitive to the special needs of this fast growing population. Florida's demographics are unique. Seniors are relocating to our state and our county in record numbers, many of whom are simply 'aging in place.'
Family mobility has created difficulties for those caregivers who are called upon to provide the support and care needed by their loved ones. Elder Services can bridge the gap for distance care givers. Elder Service can help alleviate concern by providing dependable quality support services for those Senior Adults living alone or experiencing increasing frailty.
Services and employment are offered without consideration of sex, race, creed religion, or age.
