Community Care for the Elderly

Elder Services is the designated Lead Agency for the Community Care for the Elderly (CCE) Program in Okaloosa County. The CCE program was created by the Florida Legislature to assist functionally impaired elderly persons to live dignified and reasonably independent lives in their own homes, or in the homes of relatives or caregivers. The program provides continuum of care through the development, expansion, reorganization and coordination of multiple community-based services to assist elder individuals to remain in the least restrictive environment suitable to their needs.

The primary goal of the community care service system is to prevent unnecessary institutionalization of functionally impaired and frail elderly persons by providing community based services.

CCE Services Include:

Case Management

Adult

Day Care

Companionship

Emergency Alert Response

Home Delivered Meals

Homemaker

Personal Care

Pest Control

In-Home Respite

Medical Supply Assistance

In addition to the CCE Program, Elder Services also operates the Alzheimer's Disease Initiative (ADI) Program which was in response to the Legislature's recognition of the alarmingly high percentage of individuals affected by Alzheimer's Disease and other related memory disorders.

The nature of the ADI program is such that the impact on the caregivers is as great as the impact on the person with the disease. The caregiver plays a key role in the prevention of premature institutionalization of the individual. Thus, caregivers need services to assist them in the continuation of care.

The purpose of the program is to encourage the provision of care for elders in family-type living arrangements in private homes as alternatives to nursing homes or other institutional care settings. A basic subsidy is paid to the care giver to assist with the cost of housing, food, clothing, and medical/dental services.
