Elder Services of Okaloosa County was awarded $19,500 by the Emerald Coast United Way in support of its locally funded Meals on Wheels Program. MOW is the flagship program for Elder Services which was incorporated in 1971 with the assistance of a United Way grant. A hot, nutritious meal is prepared, packaged and delivered with the assistance of dedicated and caring volunteers. Eighty-six percent of our clients live alone without support of family and friends. Our volunteers deliver more than a meal. They provide a sense of security and a connection with the community. United Way funds are used to purchase food items used in the making of meals. Their partnership with Elder Services allows the agency to continue to serve our most vulnerable adults.

Community Care for the Elderly

Elder Services of Okaloosa County is the designated Lead Agency for the Community Care for the Elderly (CCE) Program in Okaloosa County. The CCE program was created by the Florida Legislature to assist functionally impaired elderly persons to live dignified and reasonably independent lives in their own homes, or in the homes of relatives or caregivers.

Elder Services also contracts for the Federal Older Americans Act (OAA) which assists with in-home services to help clients remain in the preferred setting of their home. The CCE program compliments the Older Americans Act to ensure the most supportive array of services.
